Botox treatment is simple, fast, safe, painless and effective!

Botox is a solution of a substance called Botulinum Toxin, although a potent bacterial toxic substance, it is quite harmless for people if adequately applied and in appropriate doses.

It is being used in medicine for over 20 years, from 1979.

In aesthetic surgery, Botox is used to remove face and neck wrinkles and to reduce perspiration.

The effect lies in the fact that this substance prevents the nerve impulses’ transfer from nerve fibres to a muscle cell, thus preventing muscle contraction, i.e. movement. This eliminates the main cause which causes the formation of the so called expression (dynamic) lines resulting from movement. In this way, the existing wrinkles completely disappear or become smoother and less visible, while new ones do not form.

Face application of Botox is most successful and most common in 3 typical zones:

  1. horizontal lines on the forehead
  2. vertical and curved lines between the eyebrows and at the nose base
  3. fanned lines at the corners of the eyes, the so called “crow feet”

These zones are best treated together, within one treatment, but they could also be done separately. Certain types of wrinkles and folds on the neck also respond well to Botox.

Treatment lasts 15-30 minutes, it is done in an out-patient facility, with local anaesthesia (Emla crème) by using the thinnest possible needles, so it’s practically painless and with a minimum of discomfort.. After the treatment, smaller dotted swellings and redness may occur, but they withdraw after couple of hours, so patients can quickly go back to their work and daily activities.

The effects of Botox occur gradually, usually after 48 hours, and the full effect is achieved after 7-10 days, when it is necessary to perform a check-up. The effects last for 3-6 months, usually around 5. If the treatments are repeated regularly, the muscle activity will be renewed less and less each time, thus making the effect last longer. Also, it is important to point out that during this period the patient’s face grows less accustomed to excessive and strong mimics (facial expressions, frowning, arching of eyebrows), so this is one more positive effect of this treatment.

Botox also affects the sweat glands by reducing their activity, so it significantly decreases or completely prevents perspiration of palms, armpits, forehead and groins. This effect lasts 6-12 months.

The Botox treatment can be performed only by physicians who had proper training.
